Blog reflection week six

In this blog post im going to write about what I did during this week

during this week I had to complete four blog posts, this included, analysis of three short films , analysis of a magazine review, a poster analysis and an audience portfolio page.

WATCH.OUT.FOR.EVIL
I have been continuing to analyse film posters as we had task to analyse three different posters. Successfully I completed my poster and have gained a lot of inspirations from the different posters that I analysed. One poster which I got inspired by was “Antichrist".
I did some research on the movie as I think that I could add some elements of the film into my own production. The reason as to why I got inspired is that I really like the movies visuals and the different type of camera shots. In addition the movies colour pallet worked really effectively and suited the mood and atmosphere of it.

According to Wikipedia Antichrist is a 2009 experimental horror film written and directed by Lars von Trier, starring Willem Dafoe and Charlotte Gainsbourg. It tells the story of a couple who, after the death of their child, retreat to a cabin in the woods where the man experiences strange visions and the woman manifests increasingly violent sexual behaviour and sadomasochism. The narrative is divided into a prologue, four chapters and an epilogue.

When creating the posterPower Point and trying to find different film posters on Google images. The film poster “Antichrist" caught my intention as I really think that this could relate to my short film latch. I really like how it does not expose that much of the narrative as they only use one object within the poster which is the scissors. When creating my poster I could replace the scissors with the necklace and put blood stains or blood drops drizzling down the poster. In addition I really like how they used the double exposer effect of the scissors and replacing it with two heads. Overall this poster is very simplistic but has so much meaning towards it and therefore I would like to create something as similar to this poster as it will create enigma and suspense towards the audience.

In this week’s task we also had to create a power point on a magazine review and to analyse three shorts films. I used the website issue as it saved time and effort as I did not need to go out and buy the magazines. In addition we created a portfolio page on meet my audience  which outlines what our perfect target audience is going to be, for example agile, the age of the audience, the gender, the audiences interests, the location where they come from and the audiences ethnicity.

Meet My Audience

In this blog post im going to write about my target audience for my short film "latch".
Below is a powerpoint showing my target audience.

Short Film Poster

In this blog post I will be writing about the layout of a film poster.

This will include:

  •  what type of film poster I will be analysing.
  •  How is the poster constructed and why has the institution  selected the design?
  •  what audience is the poster targeting and what is denoted on  the poster to support this?
  •  what messages does the poster connote to the audience about  the film?
  •  Are there any elements of brand synergy carried from this  text into the film?

Below is a powerpoint covering each bullet point and also explaining the different types of conventions in a film poster.

Magazine review

In this blog post I will be analysing a magazine film review.I will be highlighting the main conventions of a magazine review, for example the title, star rating, stills from the film and so on.

This blog is going to include accompanied paragraphs. This will include:

  • what is being reviewed?
  • who is the review targeting?how do you know?
  • How is the film reviewed?what language is being used?
  • what key information/messages dose the review give to the audience about the film?
  • what ideas might you take from this film review?

Blog reflection week five

This week I have been analysing film posters as we had task to analyse three different posters. To help me understand what conventions/codes are in posters I did some research to help me and also reseach on film magazines as its our second task.

During this week I was also looking at different locations for filming as I felt that my previous location was too expensive (w14 hotel cost £48). Here are some locations which I found on Airbnb as it is affordable and cheap. In addtion some Airbnb locations offers a free extra day for staying there which will be an advantage for us if we had to re-film any scenes for my short film latch.

Analysis of results

In this blog post Im going to write about my results which I gained from my questionnaire and voxpop.

Overall Results

The aim of this research was to gather information about our short film and if the general idea was good or bad. This helped us a lot when gathering the information as we opened our options more of creating a short film rather sticking to one option. For example making the short film into a possession horror short film. During this process of research we filmed our vox pop during lunch as everyone is free during that time and there is a wider age group to focus on rather than concentrating on one specific age group.

Everyone chose the genre horror and that was a perfect choice to pick as we are both are doing a horror short film. This was therefore a popular choice and the audience is going to expect something spectacular when creating our short film.

I think that the modern choice would work in our short film but we would like to make the protagonist in to a 50s classic girl but still adding a modern twist.such as the location to be modern and the use of technology.
I do like the idea of not revealing the antagonist but I would like to have a close up at the end of the antagonists face but not revealing to much as her hair would cover her face.

I think that I will be sticking with the black and white effect as I think it will look better using a classical olden time mise-en-scene look.

I think we picked good locations as we got similar voting and therefore we are going to stick with the top three locations.

Our female protagonist is going to be me,sundeep panag and thankfully through the voting they chose a female rather then a male as its hard to find a male actor.

I'm going to tick we both as i feel that the look is also important as the narrative.

This is going to help us alot as we are going to create a poster and the audience has decided to pick a old looking poster which will be fun to create on Photoshop.

Research Plan

In this blog post im going to write about my research plan and how it helped me when creating the questionnaires and vox pops.

Creating this plan has helped me a lot as I felt more organised and also it was much quicker to create as I did not need to figure out what to use as I had everything on the sheet.
